It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes four other smaller Durbar Squares within. Dattatreya Square is the oldest square among the four and is situated a little separated from the Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Another square known as ‘Pottery Square’ is famous for its name as the place is occupied by the potters mostly. Additionally, the view of live pottery here is a sight to sore eyes. You might as well try it for yourself. Moreover, Nyatapola Temple is another main attraction here for being the tallest five storied temple all over Nepal. It lies within the Durbar Square itself.

Nagarkot

Nagarkot, a municipality at an elevation of 2195 meters, is considered one of the popular scenic spots inside Kathmandu Valley. Situated 28 km apart from Kathmandu, it is mostly famous for its sunrise with a panoramic view of the Himalayas including Mount Everest.

Nagarkot commands one of the broadest views of the Himalayas in Kathmandu valley (8 Himalayan Ranges of Nepal out of 13). The ranges include Annapurna Range, Manaslu Range, Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Range, Jugal Range, Rolwaling Range, Mahalangur Range (Everest Range) and Numbur Range. Situated in a strategic location, Nagarkot was an ancient fort of the Kathmandu valley built to monitor the external activities of other kingdoms. Later, it became a summer retreat for the royal family before becoming a popular hill station.

Changunarayan Temple

Changu Narayan is an ancient Hindu temple, located on a high hilltop that is also known as Changu or Dolagiri in Changu Narayan Municipality of Bhaktapur District, Nepal. Moreover, the temple is considered to be one of the oldest temples in Nepal. Additionally, it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is held in special reverence by the Hindu people. In ancient times, the temple was surrounded by champak tree forest and a small village known as Changu. A Kashmiri king is said to have given his daughter, Champak, in marriage to the prince of Bhaktapur. The temple is considered to be named after her.
