Also known as the monkey temple, Swayambhunath is an ancient religious complex atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley. It is a sacred religious site to both Hindus and Buddhists. Here you will be exploring the ancient complex consisting of a stupa, a variety of shrines and temples. Some temples here are dating back to the Licchavi period. A Tibetan monastery, museum and library are more recent additions.
The stupa has Buddha’s eyes and eyebrows painted on. Between them, the number one (in Nepal script) is painted in the fashion of a nose. Moreover, there are also many shops and restaurants in the area where you can try out your favorites. The site has two access points: a long staircase leading directly to the main platform of the temple and a car road around the hill from the south.

Travel Itinerary:
09:00 AM: Tour begins from your hotel
The tour begins with a Tour Guide picking you up from your hotel.
You begin your tour at the base station of the Chandragiri Cable Car service at Chandragiri Municipality. You will then take a 10 minutes thrilling ride on the gondola to Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple at the hill station 2.4 km apart. After your arrival at the hill station, you will be able to observe the spectacular breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and Kathmandu Valley.
After staying here for about 2-3 hours you will make your way down for the same thrilling ride on the cable car back to the base station. Your driver will then take you towards your next destination, the Monkey Temple.
01:30 PM: The Monkey Temple
After a 45 min drive back from Chandragiri Hills, you will be arriving at the Statue of Peace of Swayambhunath Mahachaitya, most commonly known as the Monkey Temple. You begin your tour at Swayambhunath with a coin tossing at the ‘pool’ of Statue of Peace. Making your way towards the top you will be passing through many smaller Chaityas and Temples.
Swayambhunath is among the oldest religious sites in Nepal founded by the great-grandfather of King Mānadeva (464-505 CE), King Vṛsadeva, about the beginning of the 5th century CE. From the viewpoint at the top of the Monkey Temple you will be offered with another panoramic and broader view of the ancient and historic civilization of Kathmandu Valley.
03:00 PM: Drop back to your hotel
You will be then dropped back to your hotel at four in the afternoon.
